Locally Grown in the Brazos Valley
About Us

Millican Farms is a "locally grown" farm that is well known in the Brazos Valley for producing exceptional quality greenhouse tomatoes from November thhrough July. The farm is in the process of adding more greenhouses and dramatically increasing the amount of land devoted to vegetable production. These additions are needed to meet the demand in the Brazos Valley for healthy, nutritious, flavorful vegetables safely and sustainably produced close to home. Along with this increased production, Millican Farms will be offering a CSA where members can partner with Millican Farms and become more involved with their food production. CSA members pay in advance for a share of the upcoming harvest. They are able to monitor the progress of the crops from planting through harvest, and they receive the harvest at its peak ripeness, which ensures maximum nutritional value. The farm benefits by having a consistent market, which will allow us to focus on caring for the crops instead of trying to find a market to sell our produce.

Millican Farms currently operates a state of the art greenhouse facility that is capable of producing up to 50,000 lbs. of exceptionally high quality tomatoes per season. Our locally grown tomatoes have been sold through local grocery stores and the Brazos Valley Farmers’ market since 2004. We are now ready to expand our offering to include a variety of greenhouse and seasonal vegetables. Our idea is to use our greenhouse facilities to produce a consistent supply of “staple” vegetables, including tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers and bell peppers. Our CSA members will receive ‘a locally grown salad every week,’ even in the middle of winter. We will also be offering off-season melon, watermelon, eggplant, squash and herbs grown in the greenhouse. These greenhouse crops will be complemented with field grown seasonal vegetables that will add variety to their weekly delivery.

Our tomatoes are well-known in the Brazos Valley for their true “vine-ripe” flavor. The primary reason our tomatoes are of the utmost quality is that they are picked full-red at peak maturity and delivered within 24 hours of harvest. Other so-called “vine-ripe” tomatoes are harvested while they are still mostly green. That’s right! The only USDA requirement for “vine-ripe” is that the tomatoes continue to ripen without the aid of external ethylene gas (that’s how they ripen green tomatoes). Those tomatoes are still immature, but they will continue to mature while they are in transit from some foreign destination, usually several thousand miles away. Our tomatoes are allowed to stay on the vine to pick up all the flavors that come from being attached to the plant until they are at peak maturity. The only problem with our tomatoes is that we can’t ship them several thousand miles away even if we wanted to – they won’t take the abuse nor will they keep for a week or more in transit. Our tomatoes are harvested and hand delivered within 24 hours – the way your grandparents did when they picked tomatoes from the garden and brought them to the table.
